WEBINAR

Wage and Hour Update: Opinion Letters, Overtime Thresholds, and Your Payroll Obligations

PRESENTERS: Institute Faculty, Allie Balus and Guest Speaker, Scott S. Moore

This webinar covers the latest wage and hour developments and their practical impact on payroll compliance. We'll begin with a primer on what DOL opinion letters are, how the agency uses them, and how employers can rely on them as a compliance defense. From there, we'll break down six 2026 opinion letters—four issued in May and two just released in July—covering exempt employees performing additional hourly work, percentage-of-total-earnings bonuses, meal periods and off-site travel, pre-shift work and rounding practices, and the just-issued guidance on compensability of travel time for hybrid and home-based employees. We'll also cover the technical amendment restoring the 2019 overtime exemption salary thresholds and employer payroll obligations for tips and overtime under the One Big Beautiful Bill. Attendees will leave with practical steps for auditing pay practices and reducing wage and hour risk.

Designed for HR, compliance, and legal leaders responsible for wage and hour compliance—including in-house counsel, HR directors, compensation professionals, and compliance officers.
